Light Fantastic is a new combined arts project, involving dance, light art, costume design and media arts. It is an opportunity for young people aged 13-25 to work with experienced artists, and be involved in a production which will be showcased at the Hull Truck Theatre in July this year. The project is an exploration and celebration of the hopes, concerns, ambitions and expectations of local young people.
Through dance and by creating fantastical light infused costumes, the young people will create light sculpture. There will be a strong media arts element to the project. Artists, in partnership with young people will use film to create visuals for projection. Documentary film techniques will also be used in order to examine areas central to the young people experiences of life in contemporary Britain. There will be emphasis on representing this in a visually rich and positive way. There are opportunities for the young people to script these ideas, and film them in a TV studio environment, with appropriate lighting and sound. By forming a new technology partnership, we also plan to arrange a visit to BEA Systems in order that young people can create moving images for projection using a high speed camera. This technique reveals a new sense of the nature of movement. By capturing at 100 plus frames per second, film can be played in “hyper slow motion” and we see more than is apparent to the naked eye.
These images made up the photography exhibition at Hull Truck Theatre. You can buy prints from our Etsy shop. All the proceeds raised will go to support the work of Cascade in the community.
Clare Lynn has uploaded some great photos of the stage installation she designed for the performance.
